Year around deck building and use.
I often get asked if I build decks in the wintertime. Of course I do , I am a year around deck builder . I’ve got to make a living and people need decks so they can enjoy their yards , on sunny winter days, and rainy ones too. If you have a covered area, you can enjoy your deck and yard throughout the year. Think about it , we live in the Pacific NW , it drizzles here year ’round. So , you need a deck to keep you off your soggy lawn. You need a covered area of your deck so you can get outside to grill even if it is raining , or entertain outside when it’s wet but still warm out. Sometimes , seldom I admit , you even need a roof in the summertime to create shade on our rare 90 degree+ sunny days . You need a deck to connect you to your world…and not just in the summertime.
I BBQ/grill all year long , rain or shine. BBQ’s and decks just go together and having a covered portion of your deck makes grilling all the sweeter. The Thanksgiving Turkey? It comes off my Weber grill every year , tender and moist and a little smokey , yum. The Christmas ham? Same deal , grilled and delicious.
Do you want a dry outdoor area to use during our inclement months? There are various ways to include a covered deck area that you can consider. Adding a roof over a portion of your existing deck is one of course , but be sure to save an uncovered area for sunny day deck use. Increasing the size of your current deck or adding another deck dedicated as a covered area are deck building options to create enough space for both sunny day and rainy day deck use. If you have a second floor or raised deck adding a water-proof surface like GacoDeck or aluminum decking will provide a rain proof deck construction with a dry space underneath , perfect for BBQ’ing , kids’ play space , storage or even a carport or extra room , all out of the weather.
Whatever covered option works best for you, a covered deck area will allow year around deck use and and enable you to more thoroughly enjoy your home’s connection to your world. More later….
