You’ve had a new deck built. You’ve worked with your deck builder/deck designer to design and build the most wonderful deck your house, yard and budget would allow. Sometimes seasonal and lifestyle use-expanding features can be built into a deck: benches, flower boxes, roofs, tables, even kitchens. But for lots of us, adding deck accessories is the easiest way to add these deck-enhancing features to our decks. I build decks all year around and my clients use their decks all year around. Some, however are able to make more frequent use and enjoy using their decks more than others. Be it in the cool and moist weather we enjoy so often here in the great NorthWest or in the glorious blue-sky and sunny weather we are rewarded with in the all to short summer season, deck accessories play a large role in this enjoyment. Even the best designed and best constructed decks can benefit from a variety of deck accessories. And, often, as your family, interests, hobbies and lifestyles change, different deck features/accessories become more important to your outdoor lifestyle and your enjoyment of your deck and yard.
Some of the many options available to you and your family to accessorize your deck include the following:Lighting, lighting options include recessed surface lights, post cap lights and lights to illuminate your deck stairs.Deck-heaters , heaters can be built in and hardwired or free-standing and portable. Fireplaces, fireplaces too can be built in or free standing and removable(allowing a cozy warm spot at times , or more deck space at other times). Awnings too can be built in, attached later or free standing/portable. Many varieties, both in style and materials of storage boxes are available , both to sit upon your deck and/or be placed adjacent to your deck allowing easy access to BBQ’ing tools, gardening supplies, etc. Outdoor speakers, wired from your indoor stereo, and the standard accessory, new deck furniture….all are wonderful ways to make your outdoor deck-living experience more enjoyable.
